Msp430G2553 + BNO055

You can read integration info (source code) for other chips to get quite good idea what to do with msp430 in this regard. Usually "porting" needs just rewrite of hardware i/o part

Yes I already looked at these source codes. I am following the same sequence they are doing and everything is fine for setting the HW, but once I set the operation mode to a mode other than config mode, then I get a response EE 03 that is write failed!....this is my problem

Be aware, the BNO055 needs 5 volts through the Vin, this is not mentioned in the datasheet. The MSP430G2553 does provide 3.3 V

The datasheet says the following:

So do not power the device with 5V since it exceeds the absolute maximum ratings. The 3.3V (3.6V to be precise) that are provided by the MSP-EXP430G2 LaunchPad are sufficient to power the sensor.

I made that post just to share my experience since I have been struggling for more than a month.

You are right about the voltages, but the data sheet if for BNO055 not for the adafruit board that is plugged to.

even it says vin (3.3-5 V) but 3.3 will not turn on the sensors

Yes, OK, the board has a LDO assembled and will not work with 3.3V - I wonder why the homepage says "3.3-5.0V power supply input". The LDO will need some headroom to operate, so a 3.3V regulator normally cannot be powered with 3.3V.
