Commerical use of MSP430G2 LaunchPad Value Line Development kit

Hi,

I would like to use the MSP430G2 Launch pad in a commercial product with a Booster pack. Are there any restrictions from TI. Also do the launch pads bear any certifications i.e. CE marking ( for Europe) etc.

You shall read User Manual, chapter "STANDARD TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR EVALUATION MODULES".

1.1 EVMs are intended solely for product or software developers for use in a research and development setting to facilitate feasibility evaluation, experimentation, or scientific analysis of TI semiconductors products. EVMs have no direct function and are not finished products. EVMs shall not be directly or indirectly assembled as a part or subassembly in any finished product

Hi Ilmars,
Understood. However I seem to recollect reading T&Cs which said hardware files could be used in commercial products. Otherwise there is no point in providing the layout and Gerber files.

The EVM license does not allow you to use the actual LaunchPad, but you could simply copy the board layout for your own PCB.

But making the PCB is the smallest of your problems. You have to do all the certifications yourself.

Yes thats where I am heading to .... And certification is the pain ....
Can TI share any tests/results performed ? At least health and safety aspects and EMC.

I doubt that LaunchPads run through any certifications. They are only development tools. This is different for design examples (TIDA) - they often pass some tests before being released.

But not 100% sure about this.

It's unlikely that TI ever did such tests (because they are not be needed for an unfinished non-product).

And even if they existed, they would be no help for testing the finished product.

Thanks all. Will wait for a TI rep to answer. I assume they have to do some tests. I have used some EVMs like the C3200 where FCC tests were done. I am assuming the MSP430 will have to follow at least the EMC directives.

The G2 LaunchPad does not do RF communications, so it does not need to do FCC tests.

You have no point to look for _any_ tests of Launchpad - if you are not using original board with original firmware that was subject of tests.
