FLASH28 Erratum and PMM settings

Quick Question for those in the know.

Flash28 bug states "Flash access with default PMMCOREV settings (PMMCOREVx = 00) or PMM level 1
(PMMCOREVx = 01) is not reliable over the full operating range of the device and is not
recommended."

Further it states that "The default PMM setting has been modified to PMM level 2."

Does this mean the part will power-up in PMM level 2 or I need to set it to PMM level 2 during initialization.

My F5419 seems to power-up at level 0.

  • Craig,

The PMM level should be 2 on reset (default) for the non-A devices. The User's Guide does show a default PMM value of zero; the brackets specify the default condition of the register after a BOR reset (vs default conditions aftera  POR or PUC reset). Parentheses signify default conditions after a POR reset, curly brackets signify a brownout condition, and only a dash followed by the number signify a PUC reset (see pg. 18 of the Users Guide for a description of the nomenclature). The Users Guide is correct because that was the intended behavior; in the case of the non-A revisions of silicon, this errata led to the change of the default setting in hardware.

Why do you think that? Have you read the register after startup? Or is it just the users guide? As Brandon pointed out, the users guide is wrong here since it has been changed to address the issues in the errata sheet.
I'm not sure whether some of the first devices still had the default 0. All currently shipped ones shouldn't.
