MSP-FET product folder disappeared and confusion about the MSP432-FET

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET

Hi team,

There’s confusion about the FET. The good ol MSP-FET product folder is non existent:

http://www.ti.com/tool/MSP-FET

Searching the TI Store for the MSP-FET gives you a page, but there is no Add To Cart button:

https://store.ti.com/msp-fet.aspx

Then I see the MSP432 FET, which makes one think its just for 432. But the orderable MSP432-FET in fact just appears to be the MSP-FET with an adapter to use it for 432.

Is all of that correct?

I feel like it needs to be called or at least say in the description that its for MSP430/432 (the numbers 430 appear nowhere on that page). And I feel like we need to retain the old MSP-FET product folder and simply recommend/point to this new FET if that’s the intent. There was a lot of good related documentation and guides on the old MSP-FET page.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Billy

  • Hi Billy,

Thank you for letting us know. We're aware that there's currently an issue with the MSP-FET product folder not showing up, and we expect to have this resolved by sometime tomorrow. Thank you for your patience. If you aren't able to wait for the product folder to show up (which is affecting the Add to Cart option in the TI Store), you should be able to order the MSP-FET through Newark.

Regarding the MSP-FET-432ADPTR, this adapter allows the MSP-FET (which had only supported MSP430 devices in the past) to be used with the MSP432. I'd recommend upgrading to CCS v6.2 for the MSP Debug Stack to support this feature.

  • Thanks James,

Thanks for confirming that the MSP-FET folder/TI Store link will be restored.

I understand that the MSP-FET-432ADPTR is intended to plug into the MSP-FET to allow 432 support. I just want to confirm that what we are calling MSP432-FET is still the standard MSP-FET + the adapter?

If so, can we list anywhere on that product folder that this does in fact support MSP430 still?

Really we should recommend (and point to on the MSP-FET page) customers to just buy that as opposed to the standard MSP-FET. Its $115 and for only $4 more you can buy the MSP432-FET combo to allow you to still use MSP430 but upgrade to 432 when you’re ready.

Please let me know what you think.

    Thanks,

    Billy

This is correct and is currently shown on the product folder. MSP432-FET is the TI part number for the bundle.

Since the MSP-FET-432ADPTR only supports MSP432, this is the reason why MSP430 is not mentioned on the MSP-FET-432ADPTR product folder. However, the MSP-FET product folder should mention that both MSP430 and MSP432 devices are supported. To learn which devices are supported by specific debug probes, I'd recommend referring to Table 1 in the MSP Debuggers User's Guide.
