Hello,

We are Panel Meter Manufactures. Our New Panel meter is a 3 phase energy meter with 0.2% accuracy rate along with support for the Ethernet and USB connectivity.

should we select MSP430 series for metering ASIC (with another chip for communication part) or switch to the Atmel's dual core IC (SAM4C Family) along with metering front end.

The ATMEL part seems to combine a host processor and a communication processor and seems to be an overkill for any smart grid application. However, i would like to understand your entire architecture to ensure we serve your needs to the fullest extent possible. Meanwhile, we have very good metering solutions that meet the class 0.2% accuracy. You can look at 2 devices MSP430F67641A and MSP430F6779A devices. The TI Designs are

http://www.ti.com/tool/EVM430-F67641 and http://www.ti.com/tool/EVM430-F6779. This will take care of your metrology needs. Also, on the application processor side we believe that you could use the TM4C129x Series

When it comes to other communication, depending on your wireless needs (if any), you can use one of the RF Transceivers or SoC from TI. http://www.ti.com/lsds/ti/wireless-connectivity/simplelink-solutions/overview.page. If you dont need any RF communication, then the MSP and the TM4C family should suffice for your needs. It is my opinion that you do not need the ATMEL device for your application.
