CCS/MSP-FET: How to solve error at update firmware

Part Number: MSP-FET

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hellow all.

Before using the 'MSP-FET430UIF' I have not had a problem, use this time to a new 'MSP-FET Flash Emulation Tool' purchase has the problem occurs below.

There is nothing wrong with the USB and the device we received, and it seems that there is no problem connecting to the MCU through the JTAG connection.

I think the voltage of 3V is not being input to the equipment. Is it necessary to input the setting separately in 'MSP-FET Flash Emulation Tool'? Or, I'm running a firmware upgrade using 'MSPFlasher', do I need to change the 'MSPFlasher' settings?

ERROR is 'Uknown device'... why this ERROR is showing.

if someone have solution at this situation. please tell me.

thanks.

  • Hello,

There could be a few things wrong here.
First, can you download the newest version of MSPflasher?
Second, which MSP430 are you trying to connect to? Is this a target board, launchpad, or custom board you are trying to connect to?
  • Hello, Thanks for your reply.

i write down somethings for your question.

First, can you download the newest version of MSPflasher?
-> MSPFlasher and MSP-FET Driver was already upgrade to newest version.

Second, which MSP430 are you trying to connect to? Is this a target board, launchpad, or custom board you are trying to connect to?
-> I tryied at my custom board but it is already finished download test using 'MSP-FET430UIF' so, at custom board dont have any problem for example. pin connect or other thinss.

    thanks.

    Best regards.

  • Hello,

Please check your MSPFlasher version again. The screenshot you show above is V1.3.10 and a newer version v1.3.11 is available. Also, which MSP430 are you using?

Also, MSPFlasher is finding the debugger correctly so there are only a few scenarios I see that could mess with your connection.

    1.  Connection between MSP-FET and MSP430 is not correct
    2. Check jumpers/headers to make sure they are aligned properly
    3. Make sure end device is powered correctly and connection to MSP-FET is correct. I.E. if the board is being powered by the MSP-FET versus its own external power, the connection to the MSP-FET is different.
    4. Double check to make sure the JTAB/SBW circuit matches what is recommended in the MSP HW USer Guide, Section 2 ()
    5. Ensure the device has not been JTAG "Locked".
