MSP430F247: USING MSPFLASHER program with a MSP-EXP430G2 Board

Part Number: MSP430F247
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET

Is it possible to program a MSP430F247 using the TEST and RST lines coming from an MSP-EXP430G2 Launchpad board?

I have connected the VCC and GND up properly, and am attempting to use the RST and TEST connections over to the target board that holds a MSP430F247 controller.

The MSPFLASHER program claims it can not see the target device.

Any thoughts from the forum?  Should I be using another device to program the MSP430F247?

Thanks

  • Hi David,

Unfortunately, that configuration is not supported. Please see www.ti.com/.../slau647 MSP Debugger's Guide, Table 1. You'll see that for MSP-EXP430G2 it shows that it only supports F20xx, F21x2, F22xx, G2x01, G2x11, G2x21, G2x31, G2x53 devices. This is because the eZ430 emulation section on that Launchpad (and on some other tools like theeZ430-F2013) was only design to support the devices for that particular board.

For most devices, you'd be able to use one of the newer launchpads with the eZ-FET emulation section (described in the same document) to program the device - however, that only supports SBW programming. The MSP430F247 device is one of the few, older parts that do not support SBW, only full 4-wire JTAG. That means that in order to program the part, you are going to need the MSP-FET tool.

I hope that helps to lay out your options - either needing a different device, or a different tool.
