MSP430G2744: Restarting the MSP430 periodically

Hi,

Is it possible to restart MSP430 at 50ms interval?
Our customer's application is battery powered and in order to save power
they are trying to Shutdown MSP430G2744 and start periodically instead of using standby mode.

Currently they are trying to restart at a 50ms interval but the MSP430 hangs up in between..
RST pin has 100kΩ＋100nF in order to provide more delay during power-up.

Please let me know if this kind of usage is allowed with MSP430.

What do you mean with "restart"? A wake-up triggered by an interrupt, or a complete reset? (Both should work.)

Well - trying to force a hardware reset because they are unable to find the bug is actually the worst possible solution.

In general..is this kind of usage possible? Just in case we would like to know
what could be the possible problems with restarting(OFF/ON) MSP at very short duration.

Probably no physical harm, but a woeful design crutch.

I would not go on with such a serious design issue unresolved. Sometimes (according to Murphy) there is a large bug hiding behind a smaller one. But it's not my project ...

Nano timers are used for power gating the Vcc.

But LMP3 with 32K crystal is using less than 1uA and gives you a very accurate 50ms

Sorry, I have no other option than to say: this kind of usage is allowed but stupid. Actually no matter which low power microcontroller used.

Power consumption definitely is lower by using sleep instead of wasteful reinitialization of msp430 hardware and user firmware data/state 20 times per second(!). If sleep time is minute or longer - then it could be option to use some nanopower timer mentioned. But for god's sake not using "RST pin has 100kΩ＋100nF in order to provide more delay during power-up".
