MSP432P401R: External flash maximum size

Part Number: MSP432P401R

Hi Champs,

I check MSP432 datasheet which showed 432 support 4GB address space (section 6.3). Does that mean customer can use 4GB external flash for MSP432? There is a "flash memory  region" which is 4MB in datasheet as well. Could you please tell me what is the maximum external flash size for MSP432 ? 4G or 4M ? Btw, customer would like to use serial flash such as SPI/I2C interface external memory. thanks for your replay in advance.

  • The MCU you asked about has no external bus interface, so any question about a maximal Flash size is mood. You got to live with that ("up to 256kB") what is implemented.

Serial Flash (SPI/I2C) is a totally different matter - it is not mapped into the memory space. You can connect as much as you like, i.e. as much as the bus interface allows.

  • Hi f.m

    Thanks for your reply.
  • Lisa,

The reference in 6.3.1.1 Flash Memory Region to "4MB" region is in relation to the maximum addressable area for this architecture/ memory map.

The MSP432P401R device only supports up to 256kB as per the datasheet.

This "4MB" not related to external memory and  the device does not natively support an external memory interface.

Let me know if this answers your question.
