MSP430FR5969: ADC differential mode

Dear Experts,

There is possibility to measure differential voltages with MSP430FR5969 ADC. Is it so that when ADC is used in differential mode, both inputs are still measured ground referenced and difference between two measurements is used as a differential result? The reason why I'm asking is because I'm not sure about the requirements for reference voltage in differential mode. Let's say I'm using ADC in differential mode and voltages are 3V and 2V, meaning that differential voltage is 1V. Do I still need reference voltage >3V, or is >1V enough?

    Hello Juha,

    The reference selection requirements for both single-ended and differential mode is the same. This means you must chose your reference in relation to your highest input voltage to avoid saturation of the signal. Documentation will be updated to give further clarification on this.

    Also check out, Designing with the MSP430FR58xx/FR59xx/68xx/69xx ADC (http://www.ti.com/lit/slaa624), for help with choosing the correct reference for your application. Also, example code msp430fr59xx_adc12_03.c found in MSP420Ware (MSPWare) --> Software --> Devices --> MSP430FR5xx_6xx-->MSP430FR5969-->Peripheral Examples--> Register Level, gives an example of differential input of 1V you may find useful.
