CCS: Usage of MSPware...

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSPWARE, MSPDRIVERLIB

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

I like the concept of MSPware and have been using it for recent projects. - portability is my driving force.

However, outside of TI's examples, I don't see much MSPware open-source or public domain code.

How popular is MSPware - do a lot of people use it, or are the majority stuck in explicit coding?

  • Hi Nick,

Are you referring to MSPDRIVERLIB, which is a software API, as compared to the MSPWARE collection of resources from which the DriverLib is included? It is hard to gauge the popularity of Driverlib but in my own experience I have helped several customers who are using it in their projects. TI provides several code examples explicitly for Driverlib and it is also used in several EVM and BoosterPack demonstration and User Experience projects. Although only created in the past few years, Driverlib has gained popularity amongst the community such that TI plans to continue supporting and updating Driverlib. It is safe to assume that it is fairly popular among developers even if publicly-provided examples and applications are not yet widespread.

  • Thanks for that - I really like it - a few years ago I had some reservations but it appears to have been re-worked a bit with some of the APIs made more consistent, particularly in the naming conventions used.

I find it allows me to write portable code (between MSP variants) rather more easily too...

    Cheers

    Nick
  • Thanks for the feedback Nick, portability is definitely one of the intended advantages of MSPDRIVERLIB along with reducing the difficulty of writing and interpreting firmware. Several changes and updates have been made in the past few years to make the library as user-friendly as possible and it is good to hear that the hard work is benefiting the community.

    Regards,
    Ryan
