Dear colleagues,

I'm trying to program a MSP430F6736IPN (80 pins) using the spy-bi-wire interface from a MSP-EXP430G2 launchpad module with Code Composer Studio v6, but with no success. The launchpad module is working fine (I've tested it to program a MSP430AFE253 soldered in a separate board via SBW and it's OK), and the signal connections for SBW communication were made according to the rules suggested in the "MSP430 Hardware Tools" (SLAU278U). I also found other people that had the same trouble with this MCU - some of them employed a MSP-EXP430FR4133 launchpad instead of the MSP-EXP430G2. However, a friend told me that he managed to program a MSP430F6736IPZ (100 pins) using the MSP-EXP430G2 launchpad module. Has anyone here have the same issue? I'm planning to buy a MSP-EXP430FR4133 launchpad and try it to solve my problem, or (even better) a MSP-FET430UIF, but I would like to have some feedback and/or suggestions from anyone who has already have this problem.

Table 1. Debug Probes Features and Device Compatibility of MSP Debuggers shows that the MSP-EXP430G2 only supports F20xx, F21x2, F22xx, G2x01, G2x11, G2x21, G2x31, G2x53 devices.

Whereas the MSP-EXP430FR4133 contains a eZ-FET emulation which the MSP Debuggers document shows supports all programmable MSP430 and CC430 devices with 2-wire JTAG (Spy-Bi-Wire). Therefore, the MSP-EXP430FR4133 should be able to support programming of the MSP430F6736IPN using the spy-bi-wire interface.

If this is true, than your friend didn't use CCS for this for sure. Probably msp-debug. Anyway, he can give you detailed explanation how to do this. Maybe you can find something here...

G2 LP is with not updatable firmware, and by using TI software it will not work with new devices, even regarding onboard hardware it can do it.

FET430UIF is old and slow. Any LP with updatable ez-FET Lite on board is just fine.
