Low Power MCU recommendation

I’m looking for MCU with as minimal dimensions and current consumption as possible. The device shall have at least 20 IO (including programming). What MCU would you recommend?

If this fall into the "once a week on, deep-sleep otherwise" category, you might want to check for minimal GPIO leakage current as well, not only core consumption. Some vendors (not these) are said to fail to account for that.

You need to wait for MSP430FR5994 in BGA package (6x6 mm) then. But implementing BGA technology level is quite expensive, so you choose. IO pins leakage current is less than 20nA.
