MSP432P401R: LaunchPad not recognized by computer

Part Number: MSP432P401R

I just received my LaunchPad in the mail.  After opening the box, I went ahead and plugged it into the computer.  The computer didn't recognized any added peripherals or occupied USB slots.  I tried it in multiple slots and on multiple computers(Win 7 64 bit and Win 10 64 bit) with no success.  The board shows no signs of connection either (lights, sounds, etc).  Am I missing something or did I just get a bad board?

  • Afaik, the debugger led should turn on when you connect the board via USB. I guess it is probably broken. If you happen to have a multimeter, you could try to measure if there is any voltage on the isolation header (the header with the jumpers connecting the debugger and the MSP). If there is none, then either your cable is faulty or your board damaged. If you are really motivated, you could also power the CPU from the isolation header and use an external JTAG debugger, but buying a new board is probably cheaper and less of a hassle.
  • Looks like it was the cable.  I tried someone else's cable and it came right on.  Thanks for the help.
