MSP430FR6989: AES256 and USB communication support

Hello Team,

I have a customer who is looking for a MCUdevice which can support both AES256 and USB communication. From my search I could find either AES256 or USB not both. Do we have any MSP430/ MCU device that can support both features ? 

The customer query below :

" We originally were going with the MSP430f5529 because the usci supports USB. Now it looks like we will need AES-256 support.

I see that the msp430FR6989 supports the AES-256 but there isn’t a USB section like in the MSP430f5xxx user guide.

A) Is it true that the msp430FR6989 does not support USB through those eUSCI cores?

B) Is there any microcontrollers that supports both USB communication and AES-256 bit? "

I would appreciate if you could point me to this particular device.

    Hi Kishen,

    You are correct. The MSP430FR6889 has an AES256 module, but not USB. The MSP430F5529 has USB, but not an AES hardware module.

    If USB OTG is adequate, I'd recommend looking at the TM4C129, which features this and an AES HW accelerator.

    If USB OTG is not adequate, then I'd recommend implementing the AES256 in software on the MSP430F5529, since it supports USB communication. Here are several resources that will be helpful.

    I appreciate your help. Yes I had looked at the possibility of Software AES implementation. I was just wondering if I had missed anything during a parametric search. I will forward your response to the customer and check for feedback. Out of curiosity do you have any idea if there is a plan to support both USB and AES on the MSP430's ?
