MSP430G2553: Adding a comment in TI-txt file

Part Number: MSP430G2553

Is there a syntax that can be used to add a comment into a TI-txt file?

  • Hi,

Unfortunately, comments cannot be added to a TI-TXT file. This type of file is a very low level binary file used for programming the device. At a higher level, C code allows comments to be added, but then these are stripped out when the binary file is generated. The TI-TXT file is basically an easier-to-read hex-based binary file compared to other formats.

Appendix A.2 in the MSP430 GANG Programmer User's Guide discusses the format and restrictions of TI-TXT files.

    • @ADDR is the start address of a section (hexadecimal)
    • DATAn represents a data byte (hexadecimal)
    • q is the termination of the file.

If comments are essential to keep track of what you're doing in each section of the binary file, I'd recommend having two copies: 1) working, programmable TI-TXT file and 2) identical copy with your comments inserted for your reference.

    Regards,

    James
