MSP430F6659: MSP430F6659

Part Number: MSP430F6659

Hi,

I'm trying to work with a battery(super-cap) that will support the MSP controller, while the main power will shut down.

I wish the MSP to work in LPM when he's supplied from the battery.

Are there any roccomendations of coonnections for this oporation mode?

What are the current consumption that I should expect?

Are there any SW considration that i should pay attention?

Thanks,

Netanel

  • Hi Netanel,

You should be aware of the battery backup system on the MSP430F6659 which is built with this type of application in mind. This battery will need to be connected to VBAT with a 4.7 nF capacitance at pin VBAK and 32 kHz external crystal at XIN/XOUT to source the RTC. VBAT power consumption is covered on pages 55 and 67 of the Datasheet. Recommended operating conditions are also shown on page 52. The Battery Backup System and Backup Ram are covered in Chapters 3 and 10 of the User's Guide, respectively.

    Regards,
    Ryan
