MSP430G2955: Programming via I2C/UART

Part Number: MSP430G2955

Hi,

Customer asked me a question and i need your support.

Their design incorporates MSP430G2955.

They need A way to program it from their host via I2C/UART - is it possible? AND NOT by using the ROM BSL.

Inserting another MCU (Described at slaa535a ) so it can program his MCU is not a good solution here.

Can you clarify why they can't use the ROM BSL? I need to know in case we can find a work around.

What are they using as their host their host? The apnote you mention should be applicable to that host as well, and just used the additional MSP as an example.

MSPBoot might also work for you, it is a software BSL that uses I2C. CHeck it out here: software-dl.ti.com/.../index_FDS.html

Hi Cameron,

The host is a CPU ARM based.

The way it is connected:

Pin 23, 3.3V level: UART to AP

Pin 24, 3.3V level: UART from AP

Pins 5,37: Those pins manipulated by AP, connected via open drain.

Pls. advise if it will work (If the TI MSP430G2955 can be programmed via UART the way it is connected).

Hi Elad,
You can program it via the UART or I2C using a BSL, or even SBW, if it isn't locked (I assume that it is).

You didn't answer my question about why you cant use the ROM BSL, can you clarify the reason? But assuming you cannot use it, you could implement implement a Main Memory BSL, (which supports I2C/UART/SPI) : www.ti.com/.../slaa600b.pdf

In this appnote and SLAA535, either an MSP or a PC is used as the host processor for demonstration purposes. In your case, you dont need these, as the ARM processor would act as the host.
