interested in having a MCU based, Li-ion switching charger.

 The requirement for switching is coming from efficiency.

The requirement for MCU is coming from the need to report on the process using our proprietary protocol.

    I would suggest taking a look at our Fuel Tank Battery Booster pack as a starting point. It may have some additional features you don't need, but it does implement a Li charger circuit using a BQ24250 charger and is compatible with any MSP430 launch pad. All design files and sample code are available at the link below.
