Hello,

I am using MSP-GANG Programmer (http://www.ti.com/tool/msp-gang) to program and blow the JTAG pin of MSP430G2553. Will you please suggest me how to connect this two devices.

After installing MSP-Gang software and driver, i connected MSP-GANG using a cable, i am getting error messages:

Communication with MSP-GANG initialized successfully.

Reading Info memory ...Failed
ERROR 322: Command failed or not defined or Target not accessible !
ERROR 3: API Firmware CRC error! The API Firmware should be reloaded.

Can you please help me.

Hi,

Can you provide a schematic showing how you are currently connecting the MSP-GANG to the MSP430G2553?

Are you using JTAG of SBW communication? You need to ensure you have specified in MSP-GANG which form of communication you're using. Also, can you provide more detail about what you were trying to do when you got the above errors (e.g. read memory, program part, etc)?

I updated the firmware code, then the error 322 and 3 are gone.

I am getting a new error: MCU device initialization failed. Can you please advice me. Thanks

Hi,

From your schematic, it looks like you are trying to program via Spy-Bi-Wire(SBW). It also looks like you don't have the proper connections to the MSP430G2553. Please refer to Fig 2-2 of the MSP430 Hardware Tools User's Guide which shows the correct connections to program the G2553 via SBW.

You also need to select "SBW(Fast,TDIO)" in the "Interface Option" section of MSP-GANG. In the image you've shared above, it looks like you have "JTAG(Fast)" selected which is incorrect if you're trying to program via SBW.

Finally, it is very important that you have the proper external components on the RST line. Fig 2-2 of the MSP430 Hardware Tools User's Guide shows these components and they are a 47k pull-up to VCC and a 1.1nF capacitor.

Hi Caleb,

Thanks for the information. Is it possible to blow Jtag fuse by SBW or i need to modify connections and select Jtag fast method.

Hi,

The short answer is no, you need a full JTAG connection.

Thanks for the link. I didn't understand the wiring connections. Will you please advice me the JTAG (fast) Method wiring connections from Msp430g2553 to MSP GANG.

Hi,

To connect via 4-wire JTAG please refer to Fig 2-1 of the MSP430 Hardware Tools User's Guide. Again it is very important that you have the proper external components on the RST line. Fig 2-1 of the MSP430 Hardware Tools User's Guide shows these components and they are a 47k pull-up to VCC and a 1.1nF capacitor.
