MSP430FR6972: Power consumption difference of Rev A&Rev B

Part Number: MSP430FR6972

Hi Dears,

My customers use minimum system test power consumption, use empty loop code,3.3V,power series 10 ohm resistance measurement voltage indicate power consumption。

As below Pic of voltage we found the frequency of A is two times of B,but the peak value of A is 1/2 B,as result we test REV B power consumption is greater than REV A

Do you have the same result? Can we solve it? Thanks~

Rev B:Yellow

Rev A:Green

Well, then make them equal. Comparing peak values of power current spikes if their frequency differ is useless in case you want to compare power consumption. Be sure that you have equal power rail capacitors on both test systems. Power consumption is integral value, better use integration option of scope.

  • Hi mars,
the customer use same board&same code, the peak current value of RevB may Impact system startup when low-power supply,we guess the core or power management changed...but didn't konw the detail, pls help confirm
Do you have the diffirence between RevA and RevB~Tks~
  • Hi Huixin,

You are correct in assuming that the PMM module has been modified between revisions to correct the PMM24 & PMM27 errata, as displayed in the device erratasheet (SLAZ627). This will not affect system startup so long as you have a dependable supply within the MSP430's specifications. You will need to provide more detail as to if a LPM is being entered and what exactly is being measured on the oscilloscope.

    Regards,
    Ryan
  • Hi Ryan,
As start, the main code is empty loop code_while(); We didn't use LPM, as we can see only the performance of current consumption type is not the same. Need you help do the same simple test&measurement, tks~
  • Hello tks,

Expected power consumption measurements are provided in the Datasheet, please provide detailed information if you find that this is not reproducible with your setup.

    Regards,
    Ryan
