Hello,

I recently tried ordering a MSP-FET in the Netherlands and these are not deliverable anywhere in Europe for the foreseeable future. I have already ordered a couple of test boards with a JTAG Interface for the MSP430FR5994 and am now not sure which programmer to use for it. The TI website says that one should use the latest FET model for "newer" designs. I could not find any information about any alternative programmer which might be compatible with the MCU. Does anyone know if, for e.g., the MSP430UIF is compatible with newer MCUs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All MSP430 LaunchPads have a built-in programmer. The one on the G2553 is too old, but the eZ-FET (lite) on the other boards supports all MCUs (that can run with the LaunchPad's 3.3 V).

Why to downgrade to old and slow MSP430UIF. If you don't need debugging, just flashing with Mailbox / UART / I2C logging, than my (MSP-GANG like) flasher can do this for FRAM devices by SBW or SBW+ interface.

Hello Clemens,

thanks for the quick response. The boards that I have ordered are prototype designs and not evaluation boards.

Any suggestions?

Hello Shailesh,

MSP-FET430UIF will also support MSP430FR5994 as it will be upgraded through CCS/IAR IDE for the same.

I am the author, so for any info send me pm. PC side is open source. It is working by native CDC OS drivers. There is no need to install anything. It is not compatible with TI software.

Clemens suggestion is related to use (open source) eZ-FET Lite (part of any new low cost LP, for example MSP-EXP430FR5994) as programmer / debugger for your prototype board. Also you can build one by yourself.

The LaunchPads have both the programmer and the target MCU soldered onto the same board, but you can disconnect them from each other by removing some jumpers, and connect the programmer to the SBW pins of your own board instead.
