Document ambiguity: SLAU278Y rev Mar2016 page 23

On page 23 of SLAU278Y rev Mar2016, Figure 2-2  ("Signal Connections for 2 wire JTAG Communication (Spy-Bi-Wire) Used by MSP430F2xx...")
The document reads:
" If fuse blow functionality is not needed, R2 is not required (populate 0 Ω)"
This is simply unclear.

"R2 is not required"   means eschew it - leave an open space.
"populate 0 Ω"            means replace it with a jumper wire.

Can someone at TI support clear this up?  Which way should R2 be replaced for no fuse blow?

  • See the second part of the sentence:

[…] If fuse blow functionality is not needed, R2 is not required (populate 0 Ω) and do not connect TEST/VPP to TEST/SBWTCK.

With no connection to TEST/VPP, it would not make sense to leave the TCK ↔ SBWTCK connection open.

  • That's what I suspected, but if the sentence is read twice, one might disconnect TCK from TEST/SBWTCK because "R2 is not required".
The ambiguity arises from the original author being too close to knowing what R2's function is. (R2 is not required). I wanted to be sure.
    Thank you.
