Hi,

We are using MSP430F6779AIPZ for a metering development using CCS. We are not using any development kits for our activities and planned to work with a prototype. How can I program the target? What all tools are available for flashing? We are planning to have 2 options 1. JTAG 2. Using UART. Is there any specific application available for programming the chip using UART?

This part is with factory preloaded UART BSL, so any USB / UART bridge chip should work fine with it for flashing. For example...

BSL Scripter can be used for PC side...

This part can also be (debugged and) flashed with any TI LP with (open source and updatable) eZ-FET Lite on board by SBW. For example with 5529 LP...

Thank you for the quick reply.

It seems we could not use a normal USB to TTL convertor to connect the target UART BSL for firmware upgrade from the PC using the BSL Scripter application? . Any specific JTAG is required for firmware update using UART?

If using MSP-EXP430F5529LP, how can we upgrade the target device using UART . Is there any pin connection diagram available

Flashing by SBW (LP eZ-FET Lite) is using only TEST and RESET pins on target device (shared VCC / GND) for flashing, not UART.
BSL using TEST and RESET pins for BSL entry sequence, and TX / RX (timer related pins, not hardware UART) for flashing.

Is the scripter application is freeware and downloadable ? It seems in the link software-dl.ti.com/.../index_FDS.html , 'MSP430 and MSP432 BSL Scripter for Windows (including BSLDEMO for MSP430 1xx/2xx/4xx device)' is broken

It is open source, and download for win (for me) is working just fine...

Inside ZIP there are some prepared script examples for 6xx UART BSL ...

Linux compressed file is able to download. This might be a firewall issue, need to check with admin.
