MSP430FR5969: Evaluation Kit selection problem

Part Number: MSP430FR5969
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-EXP430FR5969

Hi everyone:

I am a beginner of using Microcontroller.

I am doing small design of measurement, which sample one/two channel photodiode sensors, and measure the Voltage & current consumption of the power supply of another electronics (low power). The  requirement is that all the measurement is showed on a small LCD/LED screen, and the whole design is powered by batteries (like 4 AAA). The preliminary idea is to use a MCU evaluation board to implement the digital part, while I design specific front end sensor board. Is there any suggestion for this design?

I need some suggestion in choose a proper evaluation board that can meet the requirement. I want to use the MSP430FR5969 Development Kit. But I have 2 things in misunderstanding: (1) what's the power consumption of this board; (2) If I use a LCD screen (sharp LCD BoosterPack), do I have other available I/O for ADC input?

Thanks very much

Jacky

  • Hello Jacky,

I believe you are looking for the MSP-EXP430FR5969 aka the MSP430FR5969 Launchpad. The power consumption of the board is dependent on what you program the MSP430 to do. That being said, when measuring power consumption, make sure to remove jumpers between the MSP430 and the debugger as well as disengage the super cap (via jumper) and any LEDs in order to measure power consumption of the device itself. More details on this can be found within the MSP-EXP430FR5969 User guide. The User Guide and Getting Started guide will show you pinouts for the Launchpad to answer your I/O question. We also have the BosterPack Checker in our cloud tools (dev.ti.com/.../ to help with pin comparability between Launchpads and several boosterpacks.
  • Hi Jace:

Thanks for your reply. It's very helpful.

Now I am using the BoosterPack checker, it's very useful. I am looking at MSP432 series chips, which I think can better meets the requirement.

    Thanks again

    Jacky
