MSP430F5438A: Program MSP with SD card(No PC) on field ?

Part Number: MSP430F5438A

Dear All,

I would like to update my MSP4305438A which is at a remote location using SD card. There would be no PC available on field.

Is there any way in which I can use a combination of SD card and another micro controller to program target device MSP4305438A through BSL or some other method? If yes, how and which file is to be stored in SD card?

Also, there would be multiple target devices at site. I would like to update only a specific device. In order to make sure that a wrong device is not updated, If I have a pre-defined serial no/password, how can it be checked before the updated program is loaded?

Please help me with a solution.

Thanks,

Komal Marathe.

  • Each MSP430F5xx device is with unique Lot / Wafer ID stored inside TLV structure, so making difference between them is not a problem. AFAIK, there is no open source SD card BSL. However, there is MSP-GANG that can flash from SD card, standalone without PC.

  • Thanks for replying.

The Lot/Wafer Id would definitely help me identify device. However, can the MSP-GANG programmer have provision to identify this Id before programming device from SD card?

Thinking aloud, suppose I have another microcontroller with UART, are there some specific hex files which I can store on SD card/EEPROM and send them to target device using UART with BSL?
In this case, before sending command to BSL, I would be able to read device Id of target device.

Do you think such a solution could work?

    Yes.
BTW, SBW will take 2 lines less than BSL for connection between master and target. You can check open source replicator...
