MSP430G2230: Detect illegal flash area access or illegal opcode

Hello,
customer develops on the MSP430G2230. He has to detect an access to an not used flash area. Can this be detected?
Is there a possibility to detect an illegal opcode?

Hello Holger,

This is known as flash access violation, please review Sections 2.2.1.2 and 7.3 of the User's Guide. You will not know however which opcode caused the violation.

Hi Holger,

A read does not cause an access violation, Section 7.3.7. The customer should know from their application development what flash area they are attempting to read from. Please further explain the situation.

so there is no change to detect illegal opcode? Eg. if the PC jumps by fault to a flash area with no code. (actually this is a requirement is a medical application).

Chapter 2.2.4 mentioned "illegal instruction fetch" under interrupt source.

This sort of functionality is not offered on G-series devices. Would your customer like to switch to a MSP430 FRAM device with memory protection (MPU) and IP encapsulation?

he plans to fill the empty flash area with nops now. In case of a fault the PC runs to the end of the flash and generates an interrupt.
