MSP430FR6047: USS module function

Hi,

Now I will use MSP430FR6047 to Gas meter.

transducer specification as below:

-excitation frequency:300kHz-1MHz

-drive voltage: 30V

Can MSP430  support above spec, with external/discrete solution or not?

best regards,

kyt

  • Hi kyt,
The MSP430FR6047 is designed for water meter. Cause the ultrasonic reflection wave is much smaller than the one in water meter, we need an extra amplifier to amplify that signal. But FR6047 can not used as a gas meter.

For gas meter, TI has another ultrasonic gas meter solution based on another MSP430 now. It's not released yet, but if you are interested in it, you can connect us to sign a NDA with you. Then we can share all the materials you need to you.

That transducer drive voltage is too high for our MSP430 part. The drive voltage of the transducers should be below 3.3V.
We can meet the frequency spec.

    Best regards,

  • Cash Hao,

Thank you for your quick reply.
    I understand voltage/frequency.

Is there any recommend or Actual transducer(TDX)?

In the TDC100x product folder, some user can calculate and design TDX of some Manufacturer with WEBENCH® Designer TDC1000.

    regards,

  • Hi kyt,
In the gas meter solution, we don't have any recommendations on the transducers yet, since it's still in the development stage. We have a plan for testing our MSP430 solution with different transducers.
Are you working on a gas meter project and want to compare TDC1000 and MSP430s' performance?

    Best regards,
    Cash Hao
