MSP430F6459: Regarding External RAM Interfacing and ADC

HI,

I had few questions on MSP430

1. I'm planning to interface the external RAM to MSP430F6459-HIREL. so kindly recommend a suitable RAM which is compatible with MSP430F6459 and can you please provide the interface schematics or documents for reference.

2. What is the maximum VRef voltage for internal ADC converter of MSP430F6459-HIREL. (we're having 0 - 3.3V output from my sensors)

Hi,

Can I first ask why you need external RAM in your system? The MSP430F6459 has 512kb of Flash and 66kb of RAM, is this not enough for your application?

The maximum internal reference voltage can be found in Table 5-31 of the MSP430F6459-HIREL datasheet and is 2.5V. However, this can be extended up to AVCC (max 3.6V) by using an external reference.

The MSP430F6459-HIREL doesn't have an External Memory InterFace (EMIF), so if you want to connect a commodity parallel SRAM you'll have to do it in software (bit-bang it with GPIO ports). I don't recall seeing any MSP430 that had an EMIF (though I'm sure someone who Knows will correct me).

Given the extra cycles it will take to manage the SRAM bus, you may find it faster -- not to mention simpler -- to use a serial SRAM (23LC1024) or FRAM (MB85RS1MT), which you can clock as fast as the MCU. The former is available in Automotive (not quite Military) grade.

Hi,

For the Application we're using 10 Analog inputs, 3 frequency inputs, 35-40 Discrete IO's 2 PWM outputs, JTAG, 1 UART and 3 I2C channels(MSP430F5359 ).

For some of the analog inputs we're using Moving Average Technique (Min 30 samples), So my end customer asking for some provision.
