CCS/MSP430FR5994: LaunchPad needs to be reprogrammed

Part Number: MSP430FR5994
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-EXP430FR5994, , MSP-FET

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Dear Sirs:

My launch pad bit the dust.  Its messages are:  Load Prog Error    then Load Fail !

So need to reprogram the ez-FET debugger on the launch pad.   Have been unable to find the proceedure and software.

I also have an MSP-FET430UIF which I wired into the launchpad, bypassing the usb debugger on the launchpad (as shown on p41 of "MSP Debuggers".  Now when I try to download the software into the 430 chip nearly the same error message comes up:  Load Fail.

This seems to indicate that the 80 pin 430fr target chip has failed and not the onboard ezFET.

Do you think this is true?

Thanks,

John

  • Hi John,

What happened that caused your MSP-EXP430FR5994 to become unresponsive? The issue could definitely be on the target side as compared to the eZ-FET since the error indicates that the FET is active but the target cannot be programmed. TI does not provide the images for re-programming the eZ-FET MCUs. The MSP-FET430UIF test seems to further confirm an issue with the target MSP430FR5994. Were any hardware changes made or could the target device possibly have been damaged in any way?

    Regards,
    Ryan
  • I'm not aware of anything I did to blow the target. But when you've got breadboards hanging off it on Tuesday after Labor Day, anything can happen.
  • Ryan:

While we're waiting could you please advise me of which debugger to use on our PC Boards that we are laying out now?

ie  Should I use an MSP-FET430UIF debug pod or should I use a launch pad for a debugger?

    Thanks,

    John

  • John,

The MSP-FET430UIF is NRND, you can use the eZ-FET of a LaunchPad or the MSP-FET tool.

    Regards,
    Ryan
  • You're a life saver, Ryan:

The processor chip was somehow blown. After replacing it, the Launch Pad now works!

    Thanks,
    John
