MSP430FR5969: l;;l;l

Part Number: MSP430FR5969

Hello,

During ESD test my MSP stop working, I had to reprogram the devise, it seamed the Flash was erased.

What could cause this issue? is it high voltage or other issue?

Please advise

Thanks

Asaf

  • Hi Asaf,

The FR5969 is a FRAM device - not FLASH.
Have you read out the memory content after the MSP stopped working?
What was the difference compared to the initial code?
How have you recognized that the memory was erased?
Which ESD levels have you applied?

    Best regards
    Lukas
  • Hello Lukas,

    Thanks for your quick reply,

I did not compare the FRAM content after...

The only thing I did was to program it again and the system start working.

    we applied 8KV contact discharge

    Regards

    Asaf

  • Hi Asaf,

so when you do 8kV (I assume according IEC 61000-4-2) contact discharge the question is to where you charge it and how you have designed your PCB.

Did you read following Apps Note and considered the described items:
    www.ti.com/lit/slaa530

The failure mode you describes seems to be a non-recoverable stuck situation right?

So did you check if a RESET (RST pin or power cylce) helped to resolve the situation?

If not and only reprogramming helped it is essential to read memory and compare vs. original image!

The statement you made here is very generic and makes it hard to provide the right support to you.

Interesing woudl be also a picture of the setup to see where you applied the discharge and how the whole setup looks like.

  • Thanks,
    Right - according to IPC - 91000-4-1
    it is a non-recoverable situation.
I am not familiar with that slaa and I will go over it.
Power cycle did not help, I had to program the device.
My question is what could cause the FRAM to change/erase?
    Regards
    Asaf
  • Hi Asaf,

again I need more details on the signature to answer your questions precisly. So please perform a memory comparsion reference vs. unintended behavior and let me know. If you want to go offline to exchange these kind of information let me know as well.
