MSP430F6736: Connection of Unused Pins - Why switching unused Px.y to output direction?

Part Number: MSP430F6736

Hello,

could anyone tell me, why an unused pin has to be configured as an output? (Stated in the family user guide - Connection of Unused Pins) I think, an input with e.g. an internal pullup should be fine, too. I assume that there would be a reason to do so, but I don’t know why.

Or let's ask it in a different way: Am I allowed, to configure unused and open pins as input with internal pullup?

Thanks in advance!

Bjoern

  • You are certainly allowed to configure them as inputs; there are many other circuits where this pin configuration required.

For unused pins, the 2xx Family User's Guide also mentions inputs with pullup/pulldown. There is no reason why this shouldn't work just as well in 5xx/6xx family devices.
