MSP430F67791A: Measuring the 61st harmonic

Part Number: MSP430F67791A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDM-THDREADING

Hello,

I am developing 3 phase energy meter using MSP430F67791A device. I need to know whether i can measure 61st  level of harmonics of voltage and current harmonics using this IC. (Nominal Voltage: 240V, current: 6A, Frequency: 45-65 Hz).

Thanks,

Praful

  • Hello Praful,

Yes, it should be possible. To get started, assuming your fundamental frequency is 50Hz, the 61st harmonic would be 3050Hz. Thus, you'd need a sampling frequency of at least 2x faster (Nyquist rate) which would be 6100Hz (I'd just use 8192Hz). To change the sampling frequency, you'll need to adjust the modulation frequency of the SD24 module and if absolutely necessary, adjust the oversampling rate (OSR). Remember, the effective sampling rate is the modulation frequency divided by the OSR. For the harmonics portion, please refer to our TIDM-THDREADING TI Design.

    F(s) = F(mod) / OSR

    Regards,

    James
