MSP430F5438 (non A revision) life expectancy

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5438, MSP430F5438A

Does TI plan on phasing out the MSP430F5438 in favour of the MSP430F5438A?

How long can customers expect the MSP430F5438(non A revision) to last?

Can I assume that TI will manufacture non A revisions as long as customers are buying them?

  • Interesting questin - and still no answer after 2 weeks.

Since the A is not a 100% replacement of the non-A (some changes for certain code parts required due to slightly different LPM side-effects, different errata, flash and BSL differences) and the As are more expensive, there are reasons to continue using the non-A parts

  • I noticed that the current MSP430 Product Brochure http://www-s.ti.com/sc/techlit/slab034.pdf listed 200+ devices but none of the F54xx are there, only the F54xxA. This does not mean F54xx is going to disappear, but it is not a good omen.

Yes, these parts will always be available through the normal distribution channels.

However we only recommend that newer designs select the F5438A instead.
