MSP432P401R: MSP432P401R

Part Number: MSP432P401R

Hello,

Before I buy MSP432P401R Launchpad dev board,  I would like to know if there is more than one version of the MSP432P401R Launchpad Development board. Some stores offer MSP432P401R Rev 1.0 and just one another has Rev 1.9.

What is the difference between the products? Which is the newer of the two? Are there any changes in performance or interfaces?

See images for comparison:

Thank you

  • Buy the Red one. (I think I see "Rev 1.9" on it.) Avoid the Black one.
  • thank Bruce for the reply. Yes, I noticed that Rev 1.9, I would like to know more about the revision. Are there any differences in applications or performance as the black one has push buttons on the board, which is clearly missing on the red one. Does anyone have a comparison or a document published by TI ?

    Specific questions:
    - Are the two boards compatible with each other ?
    - Are the pin configurations exactly the same?
    - Is performance of the on board MCU same ?
  • The Black one is pre-release, and it has a number of significant bugs in it. TI has dropped support for it, so people here won't be able to help you much, and over time the TI support software will stop functioning on it.

The pushbuttons on the Red one are on the sides.
  • Shubhang,

Bruce is pretty accurate with all of his statements. The Black LaunchPad (rev 1 of the launchpad) contains Rev B of the silicon, which was experimental silicon that we no longer support.

The red LaunchPad (launchpad rev 2) contains rev C or greater silicon, which features a number of bug fixes to silicon and software updates.

    1) We do not recommend using the boards together (for example, one black as a master i2c, one red as a slave i2c)
    2) PIn configurations are the same.
    3) Performance of the new Rev C silicon (red launchpad) does actually have some improvements over rev b. For instance, rev b requires flash wait states of 2 when running at 48mhz. However, on rev c, it only requires 1 flash wait-state. The hardware bugs we've fixed on the silicon features a number of improvements and fixes as well.

Please purchase a red launchpad here: www.ti.com/.../msp-exp432p401r

We do have some more info on updates to silicon/differences here: www.ti.com/.../slaa700
Section 3 of the above is also helpful.
  • thanks a lot for the support, appreciate it !
