What is maximum available clock output of the MSP EXP430FR6989 for SPI communication ?

Hello!

According to the datasheet of the device, the maximum input clock frequency for the eUSCI module in SPI master mode is 16MHz. This input clock sources the BRCLK for the SPI peripheral and is then modulated by the value of UCBRx in the UCxxBRW register.

The information can be found in the User's Guide and the datasheet for the device. Hope this helps!

According to this document the DCO clock can be set to a maximum of 24 MHz

The implication is that if you run the DCO at >16MHz, you have to divide it down to meet the eUSCI Data Sheet requirements. This is also the case for the CPU (MCLK) -- see also SLAS789C Sec 5.3 + footnote (9). It's for this reason that it is unusual (but not unheard-of) to run the DCO faster than 16MHz.
