evm430-fr6047: Configuration update problem Gui

Part Number: EVM430-FR6047

I have loaded  usslib_gui_demo into Evm. I can read data using adc capture using GUI. (ver 1700004). But i cannot update the parameters using request update.  I get message "configuration update failed". Any advise, thanks. Teuvo

  • Hi,

Are you using continuous capture? It is possible that when you are trying to request and update that the communication bridge is already being used for something else. To rule this out, could you please try updating the parameters when you start the GUI before doing anything else and seeing if the error is still there?

    Nathan
  • Hi,

Same error occurs if I try update the parameters after starting. The has been ADC-capture is off, also the frequency sweep. I have used

Code Composer Studio Version 7.4.0.00015 for building and loading the demoprogram.

  • Hi Teuvo,

Could you please list the parameter values that you are using?

  • Hi,

I have tried to download default values from GUI

The line might be busy, because the GUI gives No signal detected error message in every second.

  • Hi Teuvo,

If you are talking about the "No signal detected in up and downstream channel," then that should not be a problem, at least not the problem that you are seeing.

It is possible that something else could be using that com port. Could please try making sure that no other programs that could be using the USB port are open (especially CCS)?

If that does not work, could you please check to see if LED2 flashes on the EVM when you press the "Request Update" button?

    Nathan
  • Hello Nathan,

I have exactly the same problem here. CCS version 7.4.0.00015 , same version of USS (1_70_00_04). Pressing the 'Request Update' button results in a 'Configuration update failed' message. LED2 on the EVM does not flash. When I reset the CPU LED2 flashes one time and remains off. When I press the 'Request Update' button LED2 turns on and remains on. Any suggestions?

    Regards, Marcel

  • Hi Teuvo, Marcel,

The issue here has to do with some checks in the software that were not done on the previous version of the GUI. If you look under the "Advanced Parameters" tab, you will see 2 fields called "Signal Sampling Frequency (kHz)" and "ADC Over Sampling Rate." The product of these 2 values represents the actual sampling frequency, and needs to be between 68-80 MHz. For example, with the default values, you can try changing the Over Sampling Rate to 20, and you should see the parameters updated successfully.

Future versions of the GUI will provide more information with the error message so that this will be easier to identify. I have also passed on the information that the default values cause an error, so this should be resolved in future versions as well.

  • Hi Nathan,

that solved the configuration error  problem.  No I can change the configurations using GUI. The sensor are connected and the signals looks fine, but I get error message "HSPLL detected that the PLL has unlocked".

  • Hi Teuvo,

This could indicate that there is an issue regarding the HSPLL crystal (Y3). The most common cause is that the crystal is being shorted. Please check that Y3 is not being shorted.

If that does not fix the issue, could you please tell me if any changes have been made to the EVM? Also, are C7 and C8 populated on your board?

    Regards,
    Nathan
  • Hi Nathan,

I looked the Y3 with microscope and did'nt found any shorts. Also the C7-8 are populated. The  operation of the board is quite wear.  I have tried it out with different laptops.  It works somehow it other, but same error occurs also with that. It could work for a while and then it stops and gives that PLL error. Because it works sometimes I think that the short circuit is out of question. I haven't done any changes to the board.

Could it be, that the operation voltages are badly filtered or some filter capacitors are missing or they are poor in quality.  The USB-power lines might be quite noisy. The operation of the EVM migth  then be depended on how much there is traffic in USB-bus ?

  • Hi Teuvo,

It is unlikely that this error is being caused by the USB connection. This error indicates that the HSPLL is not locking correctly, which in this case could be do to a hardware issue. Were you seeing this error before you saw the configuration error problem? Or is this a new problem that only appeared after that one was fixed?

    Regards,
    Nathan
  • Hi,

I noticed that error before the configuration error problem occured. Has there been hardwared related issues with the EVM.

  • Hi Teuvo,

The EVM should have been tested for this issue, but it is possible that something happened to the hardware. I have sent you an email regarding getting a replacement board and sending your current board to us so that we can check what is wrong.

    Nathan
