MSP430FR6972: WHAT MAY HAPPEN WHILE I DIDN'T CONFIG THE HFFREQ

I USE FR6972 as my MCU,and use 12M ex osc;But I forgot config the HFFREQ[1:0] to 10.The product already mp for many month.I wonder what may happen?easy die?

    If you are using the default HFFREQ setting of 0x03 then you are most likely over-driving the crystal, although this will increase your current consumption it should not result in oscillation failure. The same cannot be said if the value is 0x00.  What HFXTDRIVE settings have been selected?  Please note that the 12 MHz frequency should not exceed the maximum frequency of operation of the entire device.
