MSP432P401R: Cannot connect with Energia

Part Number: MSP432P401R
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ENERGIA

I just got a MSP432P401R Launchpad and cannot get it to connect or be programmed with Energia.  I have used MSP-EXP430G2 LaunchPads before and they connect properly.  I tried downloading drivers for the new board from the energia.nu website and the program said it could not find any drivers for my device.  Where do I go from here?  Is there another way to get the correct drivers or is something else wrong?

  • James,

Please try this to make sure the driver installed correctly: (These instructions can be found at http://energia.nu/guide/guide_windows/ + MSP-EXP432P401R LaunchPad.)

    1. Do not connect your MSP-EXP432P401R LaunchPad to your PC. If you already plugged it into your PC then unplug it before proceeding to step 2.
    2. Download the LaunchPad drivers for Windows: http://energia.nu/files/xds110_drivers.zip
    3. Unzip and double click DPinst.exe for Windows 32bit or DPinst64.exe for Windows 64 bit.
    4. Follow the installer instructions.
    5. Connect your MSP-EXP432P401R LaunchPad to your PC. The MSP-EXP432P401R will be automatically recognized.

In Energia, make sure you have the correct Port selected (Tools > Port > your COM port). You may also need to run the DPInst64.exe as administrator.

  • I have done the driver installation as you indicated previously - this is where I am unable to get the driver. The program responds "The device driver installation wizard was unable to find any drivers designed for your machine." My machine is a Dell PC running Windows 10 so it is not anything unusual. So...what next? How can I get the drivers for this device?
  • Are you sure you unzipped/extracted the entire folder that you downloaded from energia.nu? That error usually happens when you try to run the installer without unzipping the xds110_drivers.zip folder first or if you have DPInst64.exe in a different directory from the rest of the files.

If it is still happening, try downloading xds110_driver.zip again, extracting the entire .zip folder to a new folder called "XDS110_Driver" and run DPInst64.exe from there. You can also try running DPInst64.exe as an administrator.
  • This fixed the problem I was having. I unzipped the file and ran the DPInst64.exe program and it installed the drivers perfectly.
Thanks for you help with this.
