400Hz Ac supply measurement

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDM-THDREADING

Hi!

I want to measure 400Hz-3 Phase Power Supply and its Parameters(Voltage,Current,Frequency,THD,Power factor). I am struct with choosing ic.

Is TI has Power Monitoring IC's to measure Power Parameters?

  • I have seen MSP430F676x1 ICs ...this ics will support for 400hz supply?
  • Hello,

Thank you for your post. Typical input signals are 50Hz to 60Hz with a sampling rate of 4096Hz. However, an input signal with a 400Hz frequency should still be captured with a sampling rate of 4096Hz (since the Nyquist or minimum sampling frequency must be greater than 2x the input frequency). You could always modify the modulation frequency and/or the Over-Sampling Rate (OSR) to sample at 8192Hz for more resolution.

  • Hello,

    Thanks for your reply.

As per my requirement, I want to measure THD for the same. Please ensure maximum order of THD which can be measured for 400Hz Input supply. Also Please guide me to choose the Right Part number to measure 3 Phase 400Hz AC Supply's voltage,Current,Frequency,Powerfactor,THD.

    Thanks in Advance.

  • Hello,

This design can detect harmonics including the 5th harmonic (which would be 2500Hz with a 50Hz input signal). This would be a higher harmonic than 400Hz, so it should work fine.

I would recommend purchasing the EVM430-F6779, running the source code from the TIDM-THDREADING design, and test the 400Hz signal.

    Regards,

    James
