MSP430FR60471: ultrasonic, water smart meter,

Part Number: MSP430FR60471
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5528, MSP-TS430PZ100E, EVM430-FR6047, MSP430FR6047,

Hi,
We tested the TDC1000-TDC7200EVM that have the MCU  MSP430F5528. Now we would like to produce our board however there is a new generation of MCU the MSP430FR6047IPZR which is a little more expensive but looks like bring a lot of innovations.

The specification of MSP430FR6047IPZR says  "The USS module helps achieve ultra-low-power metering combined with lower system cost due to maximum integration requiring very few external components". Which are this few external components?
Once we already have the TDC1000-TDC7200EVM can we migrate from MSP430F5528 only buying the MCU MSP430FR6047IPZR and MSP-TS430PZ100E or there are another components like the LaunchPad Development Kit?

Thanks,

  • Hi Sandro,

Take a look at the EVM430-FR6047. This EVM shows the required external components.

The EVM430-FR6047 is the complete system(minus transducer and pipe). I would not recommend using the MSP-TS430PZ100E for evaluation of the USS system as the EVM430-FR6047 provides the required external components and the PCB is layed out for best ultrasonic performance.  The MSP-TS430PZ100E is layed out to provide access to all pins, but is really a general purpose board and is not designed to show best USS performance.

Also, the MSP430FR60471 includes the I2C boot loader.  MSP430FR6047 includes UART bootloader, so just keep that in mind when making your selection if this is important for you.  All other aspects of the devices are the same.
