MSP-FET430UIF abruptly non-functional

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F149, MSP-FET

I've been using a MSP430-FET430UIF (V4, V1.4a) for several years on MSP430f149, 249, 5437 devices.  All of a sudden it is rendered "unknown" to

the CCS5.5 composor studio I've been using (Error connecting to the target: Unknown device).  I've combed through the forms and did find one

(e2e.ti.com/.../237389) that seemed to describe the similar behavior I'm seeing which gave directions to

update the firmware using the MSPFlasher utility .  I updated and the firmware version in the FET is: 3.11.01.003

It seems to update fine but I get an error:

* FET firmware is up to date.

* Reading FW version...done

* Setting VCC to 3000mV...done

* Accessing device...

# Exit:  16

# ERROR:  The Debug Interface to the device has been secured

* Powering down...done

* Disconnecting from device...done

Downloaded the Elprotronic FET-PRO430 Flash Programmer and determined the firmware version in my FET is 3.11.01.003 which is the

same firmware version 3.11.01.003 so I figured the FET is loaded with the correct firmware.  The FET enumerates as MSP-FET430UIF-CDC (COM5).

I tried following directions from another thread (e2e.ti.com/.../183022) to program the

TUSB device as it would appear this firmware for the communications may be corrupted based upon the type of error message I'm

seeing.   There is a path to download the TI USB EEPROM Burner Utility for the TUSB3410 (Rev. A)  in the thread that is not longer

available.

Would like to determine a simple way to update this firmware.  Spending way too much time on this.

  • Hello Scott,

    The following threads and wiki should be helpful. Ultimately, I would recommend upgrading to the latest CCS version and also purchasing the MSP-FET. Please keep in mind that the MSP-FET430UIF is not recommended for new designs.
