Hello!

I am searching for a way to program a custom design using USB. The bootloader shows up, but I don't know how to download the firmware image (.hex/.out) to the target. BSL Scripter doesn't support connecting to the USB bootloader (UART seems to detect the bootloader, but even that seems to not have more options than reseting or reading a data block. The DFU USB descriptor is visible.

How do I program the device through the bootloader using DFU? Is that functionality present in CCS or the SimpleLink SDK? Are there auxiliary programs doing that on both Windows and Linux?

Is there a way to set the BOOTCFG to a specific value in the process ? This would be to enable the bootpin check to allow relaunching the ROM bootloader with a non-empty flash.)

Hello Jaako

The BSL scripter currently does not support USB DFU class and we are working towards integrating the same in the BSL Scripter. The updated Scripter is expected to be in March. In the meantime you may use the Uniflash with TM4C product as it uses the same procedure for a Work Around.

The BOOTCFG can only be set via JTAG or via the application code. Once the register is committed a power cycle is required to make the process permanent.

Does it matter which ofthe TM4C devices I pick (there's a lot of products in the list presented by UniFlash.) I get "Error initializing emulator: No USB FET was found" in response when trying to read the memory? What's the difference between USB1/USB2/USB3?

Hello Jaako,

Does not matter as long as the part selected has USB available. To be sure, select TM4C129XNCZAD device.

Also I checked UniFlash and it does not provide the USB option. Rather use the LMFlashProgrammer.

Thanks, I'll look into that. Is it really that the only way to program the MSP432E4 with the tools in CCS/SimpleLink SDK without JTAG is to use tools for other CPUs? I didn't really find a way to program it via the UART either (BSL scripter recognizes it but doesn't allow to do anything, and UniFlash doesn't have UART either?)

Please refer to the following SimpleLink Academy Chapter.

To use the BSL Scripter you would need to have a BSL rocket. The only other options is to use Ethernet which does not require a special HW like the BSL Rocket. As I mentioned earlier, BSL Scripter support is coming soon for USB.

I have no preference to the software... but would really prefer something as part of the SDK (which BSL Scripter is not !) and available for both Linux and Windows (I think LM Flash Programmer is only available for Windows?)

I understand your concern here and I do wholly support it. I shall bring it up in our internal discussion for a UniFlash support. In the meantime you can still use BSL Scripter which supports Windows and Linux.
