MSP430F5437 REFOCLK issue RevA vs RevB

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5437A, MSP430F5438A

All,

I have found two devices with markings "MSP430F5437A Rev A" having internal oscillator frequency of 24KHz.  This is the internal trimmed crystal, REFOCLK, with the specified frequency of 32.768 KHz.  However, the device with markings "MSP430F5437A Rev B" has the correct 32.768 KHz frequency.  We verified this by routing this REFOCLK to the ACLK and then to the I/O pin.

Please note these devices have the SAME p/n but different rev (Rev A vs. Rev B).

Is it just coincident that I found two Rev "A"s with 24KHz or are all the Rev "A"s have this frequency?

Thanks!

  • Hello,

It sounds like you are using experimental samples that have un-trimmed oscillators.

An MSP430 device is considered production ready when it has the marking MSPF54x...

If the sample reads XMSP430... then it is experimental silicon (obtained while sampling).

The first release of the MSP430F5438A is Rev.D - this is guarunteed to have a trimmed REFO.

    Regards,

    Priya
