Low-cost MCU

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN4550-Q1, TCAN4550

I would have wanted a separate car regulation CAN controller, but TCAN4550-Q1 was too expensive.

CAN you help to recommend the low cost, the car gauge, the MCU with CAN, the price is 1-2 dollars!

  • pretty much any distributor's site would allow you to find parts parametrically.
  • Hi Meng Jeffrey,

The MSP team could probably give better guidance on this, but you could look into software-based CAN implementation mentioned in this thread: e2e.ti.com/.../249742. At first glance it looks to have some limitations, though (slower data rates, lack of ability to transmit ACKs). TCAN4550 seems to be the most optimized solution at this point. When looking into cost, please consider that TCAN4550 also integrates the CAN transceiver (which would still be needed externally for any low-cost MCU implementing CAN) and integrates an LDO as well - this may help with system-level cost savings. It also is designed to support CAN FD, and so it will be easier to enable this in your design (without changing the MCU) should it become a requirement in the future.

    Regards,
    Max
