Chronos wireless update crash

Hi, I was about to test some features of the chronos and used several times the wireless update feature. The watch stopped to work after crashing during wireless update process. Since then it shows no reaction to anything I try.

Is there a way to reflash a not responding device?

Thanks for any help!

Andreas

  • In most cases, the Wireless-BSL still works after it crashes but the watch shows nothing on the LCD. What happens is, the LCD driver is gone, thus Wireless-BSL cannot show you what it is doing but it can still work.

    Thus, try Wireless-BSL to load a working Application again without looking at the LCD.

    Another possibility is, the battery is low. Wireless-BSL consumes a lot of power and wearers out the battery. Open up the watch and check the battery. If it is low, replace it. Try Wireless-BSL again or use the JTAG to reload the Application.

  • Thank you very much! It works again :)

  • Good Day to all!

    When updating the program's eZ430-Chronos via IAR compiler, using the programmer kit, most of the functions of the clock keeps running, except: acceleration and pressure sensors; programs heartbeat, altitude and wireless upgrade. The other features operate perfectly!

    I suppose there may be some bugs in the code (slac341c) to 433MHz.

    As the free versions of CCS does not support this kit I could not test!

    I know that both versions of devices (Black and White v1.0 v1.1) can use the same codes for the features of the watch, due to the existence of a README.TXT file in the folder C: \ Program Files \ Texas Instruments \ eZ430-Chronos \ Recovery \ Chronos Watch with the following text:
    The recovery packages may be used for Both Chronos kit versions - v1.0 (black PCB) and v1.1 (white PCB).

    An example of a problem is detected in the execution of the excerpt:

         / / Show warning if pressure sensor was not initialised enquiry.c
         if (! ps_ok)
         {
             display_chars (LCD_SEG_L1_2_0, (u8 *) "ERR" SEG_ON);
             return;
         }

    (altitude.c file in C: \ Program Files \ Texas Instruments \ eZ430-Chronos \ Software Projects \ Chronos Watch \ eZ430-Chronos v1.0 - black PCB \ IAR \ Sports Watch \ logic).

    Perhaps, errors change_record.txt file (C: \ Program Files \ Texas Instruments \ eZ430-Chronos \ Software Projects \ Chronos Watch \ eZ430-Chronos v1.0 - black PCB \ IAR \ Sports Watch) have not been corrected or generating new bugs in the 433MHz version ...

    Another possibility would be the need to also update the Access Point of the kit ...

    The battery level could generate errors without identifying the display?

    Sincerely,

    Luiz Fernando.

  • Good Afternoon to all!

    Discarded the possibility of discharging the battery because the exchange performed.

    A new symptom occurred in the function that initiates the connection to the AP: Total Reset the clock by pressing the Down button.

    Sincerely,

    Luiz Fernando.

  • Here is the solution of the problem (not in the User Guide):

    Readme.txt file (C: \ Program Files \ Texas Instruments \ eZ430-Chronos \ Software Projects \ Chronos Watch \ eZ430-Chronos v1.1 - white PCB).

    The projects in the folder Chronos v1.1 (white PCB) Currently only include the CCS projects (except for the RF BSL). Moreover, these projects require a full license of the Corresponding IDE.

    An update is planned to be provided shortly.

    The code may be used on the old Chronos v1.0 watche as well as the new one v1.1 (white PCB). It Determines the HW variant During run time.

    How can I get the update expected shortly for IAR compiler?

    Sincerely,

    Luiz.

  • Hi Luiz,
    had my Chronos not used for years, now I have same problem as you described:
    > A new symptom occurred in the function that initiates the connection to the AP: Total Reset the clock by pressing the Down button.
    All I did was to replace the battery. I did not do any programming. As I remember, this connection worked before.

    How did you solve this?

    Regards, Micha.
  • Hi Michael,

    Yes, I have the solution to your problem! And it's free!

    It happened exactly the same symptoms with my watch.

    The whole issue is commented on the link:
    groups.google.com/.../

    You will need to download the slac341d.

    To solve this failure it needs to update both, the clock board as the Access Point board through the projects:
    ez430_chronos.eww
    (C: \ Program Files \ Texas Instruments \ eZ430-Chronos \ Software Projects \ Chronos Watch \ IAR \ Sports Watch)

    and

    ez430_chronos_access_point.eww
    (C: \ Program Files \ Texas Instruments \ eZ430-Chronos \ Software Projects \ RF Access Point \ MSP430 v1.1 - white PCB \ IAR)

    respectively and sufficiently using from the IAR Embedded Workbench KickStart version 5.60.2.

    That was my method!

    Regards, Luiz.

  • Hi Michael,
    The wireless update chronos firmware is very simple and quick. If the device is ok.
    To update the firmware of the eZ430-Chronos wireless development tool from Texas Instruments through the Control Center 1.2 see the video of this link https://youtu.be/vf8IuSebim4

    Regards, Luiz.
