MSP-EXP430FR6989: MSP430FR6989 LaunchPad Development Kit - ferrite core?

Part Number: MSP-EXP430FR6989
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR6989

Hi,

I just received my launchpad board for MSP430FR6989.

There was an extra piece in the box, which I believe is a ferrite core.

From what I have searched so far, a ferrite core is recommended when using the emulator on the launchpad, when there are issues losing connection.

Do I just clip it over the USB cable on one end? Or do I need to loop the USB cable to go through it twice? Does it matter where along the length of the USB cable it is used?

Thank you.

  • HI Doug,

You should loop the USB cable through the ferrite twice. It does not matter where along the cable to attach it.
The ferrite is included in the launchpad in order to reduce emissions and pass CE certification.

Depending on your application, you probably don't need it.
