MSP430FR5949: MSP430FR5949 hang issue

Part Number: MSP430FR5949

Dear All,

I am facing one issue in which i have a device made up of MSP430FR5949. Now when i give power fluctuations to input side of my power supply, output of which is 24V ==> going to another power supply converting it to 3.3V ==> given to LDO ==>3.3V.

Now i have observed while fluctuations LDO out put which is given to controller vaaries from 1.8V to 3.4V on DSO.

Due to which my controller gets restared. While in restart some times it gets hang up in a loop which don't let it come out of it. (I have used watchdog reset timer also, but with no effect.)

Even watchdog could not get it out of this loop. Once i recycle the input power supply controller works fine with desired results.

But we can replicate the same multiple times.

Can somebody please help in the same? Can we use some kind of software work around for the same?

Regards.

  • Hello Pallav,

Can you give me more information on the hang up situation?

Based on the SVS diagram and voltage table:

If the supply voltage goes lower than VSVSH- the device will be in brownout reset until it reaches VSVSH+.

And in your system, the supply voltage can be below VSVSH-.

    Thanks,

    Yiding

  • Dear Yiding,

Thanks for your reply. My voltages goes below minimum lever so device gets restarted. We have no issue with this.
But when it happens multiple times a stage comes when controller goes for a restart but could not get restarted.

Now in this situation if we measure power supply voltages then it is 3.3V , which means if at all there were glitches in ower supply controller has to come out of BOR and work as desired. But this is not happening.

Now if we recycle power supply then it works properly again or if we just restart controller by resetting RST pin of controller without disturbing power supply then also it works properly.

So the conclusion is power supply is steady but controller gets stuck in some place where it can not come back for restart.

    Thanks & Regards.
  • Hello Pallav,

Can you share schematic on your MSP430 device?
So as you described, this does not happen all the time but only sometimes when the supply voltage goes below minimum level right?

    Thanks,
    Yiding
  • Hello Pallav,

Have not heard from you on this issue so I assume you have found a solution for it and I will close this thread for you.

    Thanks,
    Yiding
  • Dear Yiding,

Sorry for late reply. I have found a workaround for the same. And yes it only hans when it goes in restart on continous basis.

In my workaround we have consentrated on our power supply so if it doesn't get restart then it won't get hanged.

But we are still waiting to resolve actual issue why is this happening ? And whay even watchdog is not capable to restart controller?

    Regards.
  • Hello Pallav,

We are not able to reproduce the issue you experience here and still not received the schematic from you so I will close this post for now.

    Thanks,
    Yiding
