Compiler/MSP430F5419A: Data size of enums in TI compiler version 18.1.1.LTS

Hi,

I just upgraded from CCS 7.4 to 8.1. CCS version comes packaged with TI compiler version v18.1.1.LTS. I noticed that the data size of my enum variables changed from 1 byte to 2 bytes. How can I tell the new compiler to use 1 byte for my enum variables?

Hello Jeffrey,

Looking at Section 5.6.1 Size of Enum Types in the MSP430 Optimizing C/C++ Compiler v18.1.0.LTS User's Guide, it looks like you can force the compiler to allocate 1 byte for enums by using the " --small_enum" option. In CCS, you can find this option under your CCS project properties window > Build > MSP430 Compiler > Advanced Options > Runtime Model Options > Designate enum type.

I cannot explain why that happened. For one source file that has a enum which changes size, please submit a test case as described in the article How to Submit a Compiler Test Case. So I can compare, I would appreciate if you would submit the same test case twice. Prepare it once with CCS 7.4, and again with CCS 8.1. I presume the compiler build options are the same in both builds. When building with CCS 7.4, what compiler version do you use?

Hi George,
I was using version 16.9.4. I could no longer reproduce the issue as I had cleaned up my CCS 7.4 installation and only have version 16.9.6. Where can I download previous versions of the compiler?

I think this is my mistake. I could not reproduce the issue even with compiler version 16.9.1.
