MSP-EXP430FR4133: BSL SCRIPTER HEADER INCORRECT

Part Number: MSP-EXP430FR4133
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR4133, MSP-FET

Hi,

I am trying to use the BSL Scripter to connect with the BSL on the MSP430FR4133 chip present on the EXP430FR4133 board through the back channel uart but wothout success. The SPI-ByWire works fine.

I have seen a post that suggest to add PARITY to the MODE command but this do not solve my issue, nothing change with or without PARITY.

I start the BSL through manually keeping pressed the reset pushbutton (S3), then manually connecting the TST pin to the 3.3V (jumper removed from J101) for at least 2 times and then releasing the S3 button.

Then the BSL starts, because I see the TXD going HIGH and after the messages received from RXD, the TXD answers but getting the " [ACK_ERROR_MESSAGE]Header incorrect! " message.

So my first question is: What is wrong?

Other questions:

This EXP board can start the BSL like other tools do (RochetMSP430-BSL and/or by MSP-FET)?

What are the timing of the BSL sequence on RESET and TEST signal generated by RochetMSP430-BSL and/or by MSP-FET?

I need this information to dimension my translator driver speed in my final design and I have not such tools at the moment.

I hope they are not in the range 28ns to 15us because it should be quite fast. I hope they can be more far relaxed.

Thank you in advance.

Luca

  • Hi Luca

Did you follow the timing sequence as below:

For more information you can refer to:www.ti.com/.../slau550p.pdf

  • Hi Gary,

    yes I did.

The BSL is running but does not communicate through the backchannel uart.

However now I have used a separated communication serial line (by ftdi on USB) and the BSL works.

So we can close the issue, but could you answer my other question about timings?

    Thank you

    Luca

  • I have received a second e-mail to choose if I think the issue was resolved.

As I wrote on May 15, 2018 there are two more opened question but I haven't received any answer.

So if you can, please answer, if you can't please close the issue.

    Thank you and good bye.

  • Hi Luca

    Sorry for the late response.
Q1:Yes, you can use the EXP-MSP430FR4133 board to start the BSL. You should do this followed the start timing which I have mentioned before and the UART protocol which is in the chapter 3(Crypto-Bootloader Protocol) in the www.ti.com/.../slau657.pdf
Q2: the timing of the BSL entrance sequence on RESET and TEST signal I have showed you before. For the entrance time, it will more than 100 µs .(You can refer to slau657 on page 13)
